HeavenWord 7 – Day 310

No One is Good but God Alone

The rich young ruler called Jesus a “good teacher” and asked what “good thing” he needed to do to inherit eternal life. But Jesus said that no one is good but God alone. What was Jesus saying to the rich young ruler about himself?

Keep the Commandments

Jesus plainly told the rich young ruler that, if he wanted to inherit eternal life, he needed to keep the commandments. Was Jesus mistaken? Or did Jesus’ words only apply to one man, or perhaps just to people under the old covenant?

Six Essential Commandments

Jesus plainly told the rich young ruler that there were at least six major commandments that he had to obey if he was to inherit eternal life. The young ruler claimed to have kept them all since his childhood, and Jesus didn’t become angry at his pride. Rather He reacted quite the opposite.

Undying Worms and the Unquenchable Fire

A major wrong assumption has been made by many as they’ve read Jesus words regarding hell, “Where their worm does not die and their fire is not quenched.” A quick look at the last verse of Isaiah, which Jesus was quoting, reveals the truth.

Guardian Angels?

There is no doubt that little children have a special status with God. But do little children who believe in Jesus have a different status than those who don’t? Do only believing children have “guardian angels”?

Leaving the Ninety-Nine

Although Jesus’ analogy of the shepherd leaving the ninety-nine sheep to find the one that was lost has application in Luke’s Gospel to God seeking the lost and rejoicing over the repentant, here in Matthew 18, the straying sheep signifies something else. What is it?
