HeavenWord 7 – Day 183

John the Baptist Has His Doubts

Like John, when we find ourselves facing difficult circumstances, we are tempted to doubt God’s love. During those times, we need to take a cue from what we read in today’s story. When we face what we don’t understand, it is time to fall back on what we do understand.

Todays Scripture: Matthew 11:1-5

HeavenWord 7 – Day 199

Optimistic Jesus

Jesus is not waiting for people to sin so He can judge them or fail so He can discard them. If there is hope, Jesus is hoping. Today’s reading shows us how Jesus breathes hope into hopeless situations. So why should we ever lose hope?

Todays Scripture: Matthew 12:14-20

HeavenWord 7 – Day 184

John, God's Prophet

There was a point in John’s ministry when his popularity surged, and many who traveled to see him did so for the wrong motives, and they didn’t repent at his preaching. Questioning the crowd before Him about their view of John, Jesus reveals God’s contrasting view.

Todays Scripture: Matthew 11:6-9

HeavenWord 7 – Day 200

The Second Messianic Miracle

The second miracle that rabbinic tradition taught could only be performed by the Messiah was the miracle of casting out demon that made someone deaf and mute. It appears that Jesus intentionally performed such a miracle just to challenge Israel’s religious leaders. Their response was tragic.

Todays Scripture: Matthew 12:22-24

HeavenWord 7 – Day 185

The Forerunner

Jesus spoke very highly of John the Baptist, yet those who today imitate John’s message are often condemned for being “holiness preachers” or “hellfire and brimstone evangelists.” Whose side should we be on?

Todays Scripture: Matthew 11:9-12

HeavenWord 7 – Day 186

The Violent Take the Kingdom

What did Jesus mean when He said, í¢ä‰åñFrom the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force”? Moreover, what did He mean when He said, í¢ä‰åñFor all the prophets and the Law prophesied until John”?

Todays Scripture: Matthew 11:12-14

HeavenWord 7 – Day 188

John's Revival Flop

The “revival” of John was not as successful as we sometimes imagine. Ultimately, John wasn’t received any better than was Jesus. Knowing this helps us to understand some of Jesus’ often-misinterpreted words.

Todays Scripture: Matthew 11:12-19

HeavenWord 7 – Day 189

John and Jesus Maligned

Just as in our day, the majority of people in John and Jesus’ day would not believe. Big crowds aren’t necessarily a sign of a big revival, and miracles do not guarantee that those who see them will repent.

Todays Scripture: Matthew 11:19-21
